St. Louis Bar Now Offering Dance Parties... At Lunch

Yep, the newest trend to hit St. Louis is mid-day dance parties

The LunchBeat is happening at HandleBar.

St. Louis, Mo.'s HandleBar has just about everything you'd expect from a bar — and then some. The bar small bites (including pizzas and vegetarian options), PBR and Happy Hour specials, a craft beer list... and an art gallery, burlesque shows, and now, a lunch dance party.

HandleBar is joining in on the newest craze to hit lunch hour, the dance party, with Lunch Beat, a dance party that's meant to encourage socializing, movement, and well, more fun than eating at your desk. (Because that's tough to beat.) “To have fun, normally people drink and dance and the night goes on as usual,” said owner TatyanaTelnikova to St, Louis magazine. "...But to have an impromptu party during the day is a really good break from the week, and maybe even a way to kick off the weekend on a Wednesday.”

The pop-up dance club is happening June 19... no word whether it will become a regular thing at HandleBar (or whether alcohol's included in the Lunch Beat; social lubricant!).

With Covid cases on the rise and indoor dining currently prohibited in St. Louis County and at reduced capacity in the city, you may still be clinging onto patio season. Luckily, bars and restaurants throughout the area are working hard to meet the growing demand for heated outdoor dining space. Here are 12 options to help you stay safe and warm while grabbing your next bite.

21st Street Brewer’s Bar, PW Pizza and Vin de Set complex
This multi-restaurant setup features two separate patio spaces. On the ground level, there's a ginormous fire pit along with many hand-hewn benches and tables. Grab a slice from PW Pizza and some brews from the basement bar and get ready to kick back and relax. Or head upstairs for an upscale French meal at Vin de Set with its rooftop deck and heated and (sometimes partially) enclosed patio space.

Bluewood Brewing
This brewery, which features an amazing selection of locally brewed beers, is located in a super cool historic building, and its heated patio is just as cozy as the interior. Grab a bite from Mac’s Local Eats, home of some of the best burgers in town, including The Captain, which was featured in the March 2018 print issue of Sauce Magazine.

Cinder House
The upscale restaurant with South American flair perched atop the Four Seasons aims to make its elegant patio so warm, with overhead heaters and a fire pit, that it’s truly accessible during all four seasons. With Niche executive chef Gerard Craft overseeing the menu, you can’t go wrong with any of the choices, but we’re partial to the charred onion dip and the grilled piri piri chicken sandwich.

Narwhal’s
While this Midtown bar made its name serving frozen drinks, there are also several hot beverage options – including Irish coffee, cranberry sangria and spiked apple cider – and a toasty warm patio with a couple fire pits for the colder weather. Reservations are required for the patio, so reserve online or call ahead.

Sasha’s on Shaw

There’s something special about sipping on a glass of wine in the crisp air, but it’s even better with some heaters scattered about. Nibble off a charcuterie plate while you drink, or grab a pizza, salad or sandwich if you’re in need of a full meal.

OUR FOOD MAKES FOR A GREAT GIFT

It's our favorite restaurant in St. Louis. We always bring out-of-town guests here. Always a crowd pleaser. The food and staff get an A+.

Excellent food and the waiter (Tomas) was great! The hand-breaded calamari was top notch and the desserts were to die for. Will definitely be back!

Customer service is exceptional. Amazing food and wine. We went to celebrate my birthday and I was treated as if I was family.

The food was outstanding and the service was great. Our dinner moved at a comfortable pace, food was delivered hot and fresh.

Charlie Gitto's never fails to impress. The service is personal and first class while the food is flavorful and prepared just as you would expect from a top Italian cafe.

The staff was amazing and the food was unbelievable it was so good.

We love Charlie Gitto's! The staff is excellent and they make every visit special. This was our 5th year in a row of celebrating our daughter's birthday and they always do an amazing job!

About Us

We’ve been in business for 92+ years. Join us in Westport Plaza! Let us please inspire you with our amazing food. There are so many Italian dishes we introduced to St. Louis. It’s a privilege to serve, and inspire you, and we are so grateful for your patronage.

In 1927, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kemoll (Vincenzo Camuglia), opened the doors to a new business that soon became a popular neighborhood eating place. Mrs. Kemoll (née Gaetana Danna) was taught to cook by her mother, learning authentic Sicilian recipes, which are still served today.

Initially, Kemoll’s was just a one-room confectionery, with living quarters in a small curtained-off section in the back. The Kemolls eventually moved to an apartment just above their business to make more room for their growing business—the first of many expansions—eventually over the entire building.

Mrs. Kemoll used only quality ingredients and she tested and refined every recipe until it met her standards. In the early days, when it was a casual neighborhood spot, plate lunches, sandwiches, candies, and ices were the proud favorites. The menu expanded over the years as Mrs. Kemoll expanded her repertoire of recipes. Many dishes were first introduced to St. Louis by Mrs. Kemoll—cheese bread, fried artichokes (Kemoll’s signature dish) cannelloni, manicotti, linguine con vongole, calzone, and spaghetti alla carbonara are just a few.

Located on North Grand Boulevard, just nine blocks from Sportsman’s Park (the old Busch Stadium), Kemoll’s was frequented by the sports crowd. Many old-time sports figures, as well as other popular celebrities dined here in the past, and many celebrities still frequent Kemolls today! Check out our Celebrities List.

In the early fifties, the Kemolls’ son-in-law, Frank Cusumano, joined them, bringing a business degree and management experience to the family business. His arrival allowed Mrs. Kemoll to focus on the food and décor as Frank became the General Manager. This partnership allowed further expansion and solidified Kemoll’s reputation as a destination restaurant.

In the sixties, Kemoll’s introduced St. Louis to international dining with “Gourmet Nights.” Derived from family and staff visits to Europe, these seven- or eight-course dinners featured the cuisine of a particular city, province or famous restaurant in Italy, France, or some other part of the world. Patrons were treated to authentic foods, course by course, with detailed menu notes and a history of the featured cuisine, without leaving Grand Boulevard! Kemoll’s ultimately developed and executed over 40 Gourmet Night menus.

In 1990, after sixty-two years in the same location, and under the guidance of fourth-generation family member, Mark Cusumano, Kemoll’s moved to the lobby of Metropolitan Square, the tallest building in downtown St. Louis. In 2003, Kemoll’s expanded its scope by opening the Top of the Met St Louis Banquet Facility in the same building on the 42nd floor. Here the Cusumano family serves up to 250 guests the same fine food and friendly service that earned Kemoll’s Restaurant its reputation–along with spectacular views of the city and riverfront. In 2009, Kemoll’s Restaurant moved from the lobby of Met Square up to the 40th floor, adding lunch service and great views at every meal.

Today, the Cusumano family with the help of many devoted, long-time employees, continues the Kemoll tradition, offering its many friends a variety of authentic international food that is hard to match. So, wherever gourmets may meet and discuss the fine Italian restaurants of the United States, you may likely hear the name “Kemoll’s.”
